This piece is made of clay using the traditional Iroquois pit-firing process. The fire and smoke create the colored look as seen here. Indigenous people have been using this process since before recorded history.

Mike Jones is a painter, sculptor and linguist. His works have been shown and collected by various galleries and museums across the country.

About Mike Jones work:

“I am primarily self taught in regards to my drawings and paintings and am influenced by a diverse set of painters and illustrators Native and Non-native alike such as: TC Cannon, Dan Namingha, Earl Biss, MC Escher, Gustav Klimt, Jackson Pollock and Salvatore Dali.”
